With all that's been going on this week with the new Arizona immigration law taking effect (or not taking effect), I thought this song might be appropriate. You never hear it on the radio much anymore, as it would now be considered politically incorrect and maybe even (gasp!) racist. Lighten up, people; it's just a novelty song. In 1962, it was a Top Ten best seller.
I didn't know until researching this that the "La la la's" were sung by session singer Robin Ward who had a hit the following year with "Wonderful Summer". And of course the infamous Mel Blanc providing the voice of Speedy.

I think both Speedy Gonzales and his cousin Slowpoke Rodriguez are considered racist today, hence the reason you hardly see them in cartoons anymore, even on cable or satellite TV.
