I drove home from the airport yesterday and noticed that the corn had grown quite a bit in the week that I was gone to Texas. As I came down my gravel road there was a big plume of dust. My brother had started harvesting the wheat. He finished it up today. The moisture level of the grain varies due to the large amounts of rain that we've had this spring. I felt the straw in the windrows yesterday and it was pretty wet. But we've had a very windy day today and that should help dry out the straw.
My brother brought the haywagons out to the field, and got the baler ready. We just started baling straw after 6pm tonight and loaded three quick loads. I drove the tractor.
I'm heading to Nebraska in the morning. I'll help bale more when I return.
Got the straw spreader removed, eh? It does look wet - those windrows are kinda "ridin' high."

do you have a tedder to turn that straw before you bale it?
moisture in the grain can sure get you docked at the elevators, huh? But then so can grain that is wet and shivels from a hot wind..cutting in Kansas one time when we took a sample about 8 AM it the mosirure was near 20..at 2 PM it was down to 8..wind at 106F will do that..and the weight was down bad..52 pounds..cost us big time.
