Ah, the first 70 degree day of the year. Birds are chirping. Trees are budding. And Dad's come out of his winter hibernation.
Yesterday, I was going to Dad's house to give him a message. There was a road grader and a FedEx truck coming down the road from the east. As I approached Dad's house he was coming down his driveway on the cab tractor and was going to turn east. I quickly turned my truck sideways and blocked him from going out his driveway. He hit the brakes. I climbed up into the cab tractor.
Dad: What the hell's going on?
Me: There's a truck and a road grader coming down the road.
Dad: Oh. (The FedEx truck goes barreling by with the dust flying). Who was that?
Me: The FedEx truck.
Dad: Who?
Me: (louder) The FedEx truck! (I don't think he ever understood what I said. The road grader creeps by. I look left and right). Okay...you're clear to go!
And off he went down the road.
Today he was hauling their trash can away with the skid loader. It's really an old hog feeder with the lid removed. It was full and needed to be dumped. Dad loaded it all by himself. I'm not sure where he was dumping it, but I took this picture as he passed my house. Bad enough that he's ninety and legally blind, but then he's driving down the road with a hog feeder blocking his view.
Dad was a little winded when he returned home today. He may have overdone it these past few days. Dad fell again on some cement and hit his arm. He said it was sore today, but he didn't stay home. He's talking about rigging up a ladder or a rope to make climbing into the skid loader easier. One thing's for sure: He's on a mission!
Your Dad is not slowing down!!! I'm glad you got out there and blocked him.
It does look like it'd be hard to see over that hog feeder!! If I ever come to your house I will be on the lookout for your Dad!!!

I'm not sure it's possible to have your view blocked if you're already blind.
Rachel: He's married.

You know Jerry we should all have that much energy and drive IF we are lucky enough to reach that age.
On another, note, I think he could have taken the FedEx truck.

Go, dad go! But, when I am up in your neck of the woods, I will look out for a man on farm machinery!

Thanks Jerry! I've missed your papa. My dad is on the run also, it will be a fun spring.
