One of my favorite ways to spend a weekend in Oklahoma is at Ft. Gibson Lake. My friends have several trailers in the same cove and we gather there on the weekends. Since I am only there once in a while, it is a real treat for me. We start off the day with breakfast and mimosas. Then the boat leaves at 11:00 am sharp (Capt Roy's Rule #1) as we head for Fun Island (a.k.a. The Redneck Riviera). It is a narrow strip of land in the middle of the lake where the boats congregate. A little guy named Bullshit Bob takes a lawnmower over to the island in a little johnboat and mows down the grass every weekend. Everyone is more than happy to share their food and drink for his service. Usually one boat takes the lead and has the alpha stereo blaring for all to hear. This week, my friend Jim played various Cajun and Zydeco selections. Since everyone is unfamiliar with Cajun / Zydeco music, you don't have to put up with a lot of requests. Further down the island, a group of ladies are shaking their tambourines to Gretchen Wilson singing "Redneck Woman". Someone else was cooking bratwursts. A marathon game of horseshoes was going on. Lots of cold beverages are consumed. Finally about 4pm we head back to the trailers for a short siesta. Then preparations start for a dinner of steak and fresh vegetables from Roy's garden. Craig is known to reel in a batch of crappie and fry them up. Sometimes Sue makes a batch of Brandy Alexanders for an after dinner drink. Lately, there has been a live band in the campground where you might hear Janice singing “House of the Rising Sun” with gusto. I may even swing dance if Melody is around; she's a great fast dancer. The party usually continues until late into the night. Then repeat again the next day, if you can.
